School Meals

Allergen Information

Please inform the school if your child has any allergies. Attached is relevant information as well as an E-Form to give us information on any allergies your child may have.

It is important as a school we have any allergy information to keep all children safe at all times throughout the day and make any necessary arrangements if needed. Wellspring Academy Trust’s Catering Team will also require this information to provide for your child’s allergy if you choose to order Free School Meals.

Universal Infant Free School Meals

With effect from 1st September 2014 all infant children are entitled to receive a free school meal through the Government’s Universal Free School Meal Scheme.

The hot school meal that we provide is through Wellspring Catering Team. We cater for vegetarian diets, diets required by a family’s religion and some medical conditions.

Ordering Your Child’s School Meals

Meals must be ordered at least 2 weeks in advance. Even though your child’s meal will be free the meals have to be pre-ordered. Your order must be received each Sunday on the Parent Arbor meal ordering system for meals starting the week on Monday.

Parents who prefer their child to have a packed lunch from home should provide it in a suitable container, clearly marked on the outside with the child’s name. Please note that the school has no facilities to refrigerate packed lunches. We recommend their storage in a ‘cool bag’ type of container, particularly during the summer months. Don’t forget to include a spoon for yoghurt type foods!

Healthy Packed Lunches

Scartho Infants’ School & Nursery is well aware of the devastating effects a poor diet can have on a child’s confidence and future – and so we want to help parents to make the right choices about what they choose for their child to eat. Within the school we continually strive to promote Healthy Eating. Therefore, we kindly ask that you refrain from sending your child to school with fizzy drinks, sweets and chocolate bars in their packed lunches. Any item found in the confectionary aisle of a supermarket, such as KitKat, are not permitted in school.

We also ask that food sent in packaging is easy to open as this helps the children to learn a sense of independence and also allows them to have as much time to eat their lunch as possible.

To prevent the risk of choking, grapes must be cut in half long ways.

As we also have a number of children in school with severe allergies, (nut and dairy) the school is completely nut and dairy aware. To keep our entire community safe do not send your child with peanut butter and chocolate spreads.

The only drinks allowed to be brought from home in a ‘packed lunch’ are those in a disposable container e.g. carton or in a leak proof refillable bottle. Water is available for all the children. The school is committed to a philosophy of healthy eating and although we respect that the choice of content of packed lunches lies with the parent we may contact you if we are in any way concerned about the contents.

Please note that if a school meal has been pre-ordered and your child is sent to school with a pack-up, then the school meal will be given to your child to eat.
